DICOM Part 19, and hence XIP, currently assumes thick applications running locally. As a step towards distributed applications, the XIP Application Hosting libraries, and skeletal application framework, should be modified to allow an application to present a web-based GUI. In other words, the application's GUI would appear in a browser window, as opposed to being generated directly.
This may suggest change proposals to the DICOM WG-23 to extend the Application Hosting interface standard.
